Patriotic stamped envelope canceled Hempstead, N.Y. with the boxed killer Mailer's Postmark Permit 001. The cover is addressed to Berwyn, Illinois.

The unfurled American flag illustrating the cachet is surrounded by the message: Remember Pearl Harbor. Remember Japanese Atrocities. Back the Attack. Beneath the flag is the familiar label (Old Glory) and a recitation of the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.

P. L. & R. 562 is printed on the U.S. postal stationery (Scott U420, U421 or U422); cachet maker is unknown.
