ZIP code poster

Description:

This Post Office Department’s public service advertisement poster promotes the use of the ZIP code and features Mr. ZIP with his iconic letter carrier’s uniform and satchel. Unlike advertising a new service or announcing a regulation, bringing ZIP codes to the public’s attention centered on the difficult task of changing people’s behavior. Using ZIP codes, announced the poster, meant faster and more efficient delivery for the customer and for postal operations. The graphic depicts Mr. ZIP surfing over puffy clouds while standing atop a red, white, and blue-bordered airmail envelope, implying the promptness gained by including ZIP codes on mail. The four mail pieces at the poster's bottom illustrate the most effective ways to package and address mail.
