Silver Century Rural Free Delivery mailbox

Description:

This mailbox, manufactured by Silver Century, was used on a Rural Free Delivery route. It has a roll-top shaped opening and a red signal flag. The mailbox resembles a tin-plated iron cylinder with caps on each end. The cylinder is fixed at each end to a four-sided box structure with a heavy iron bar attached at each end and running the length of the mailbox. A thin strap handle runs vertically on one side of the cylinder.
