Providence, Rhode Island, first day issue duplex handstamp
FIRST DAY OF ISSUE marking stamp used to postmark and cancel the "Settling of Rhode Island by Roger Williams in 1636" postal card. The card was designed by David Blossom and is cataloged as Scott #UX112.
This handstamp has an acrylic marking die with a fixed date molded in the center of the postmark dial. It is representative of FIRST DAY OF ISSUE canceling devices provided to postal clerks, who apply these markings at a special station in conjunction with the event.
