16c Great Seal of the United States pane of 50 with signature of James A. Farley
The pane of fifty stamps of the 16-cent Great Seal of the United States is signed by Postmaster General James A. Farley. Marginal markings include a plate number for each color ink, F21497 and 21493, and "TOP" in each color to prevent an error by printing an inverted center or frame. President Franklin D. Roosevelt placed the Great Seal, adopted in 1782, on postage stamps for the first time in 1934. He also added it to the dollar bill in 1935.
