Graf Zeppelin First America Flight post card
Picture postcard of the Graf Zeppelin sent by crewmember Albert Lehmann and carried on the Graf Zeppelin's first America flight (Friedrichshafen to Lakehurst). The card bears the special confirmation blue cachet "Luftschiff Graf Zeppelin 1. Amerikafahrt" ("Airship Graf Zeppelin first America flight") with the Statue of Liberty in the design and a special 2 Reichsmark zeppelin stamp tied by an August 4, 1929, onboard postmark. The card also bears an August 5, 1929, New York City receiver postmark.
This was to be the starting point of the Graf Zeppelin's Round-the-World Flight, commencing on August 28th, the first leg being from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen. A sponsor of the world flight insisted that it begin and end in the United States.
