Kansas Territory Issue

3c Kansas Territorial Centennial single

Scott Catalogue USA: 1061
Description:

This Kansas Territory Issue stamp commemorates the centennial of the establishment of the Kansas Territory. The Kansas Territory was created and organized by the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854. The act also essentially repealed the Missouri Compromise; it allowed the settlers of the land to determine if they would allow slavery in the new territory. Kansas chose to exclude slavery from the territory. The land was originally a part of the Louisiana Purchase. The stamp depicts a pioneer wagon train traveling through a wheat field.
