This Betsy Ross Issue stamp commemorated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Betsy Ross, the woman credited as the maker of the first American flag. She owned an upholstery business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The stamp depicts her presenting the flag to General George Washington, Robert Morris and George Ross, based on the painting “Birth of Our Nation’s Flag” by Charles H. Weisgerber.
