This Dante Issue stamp features a portrait of Dante Alighieri, based off of a sixteenth century painting. Born in the mid-13th century in Italy, Dante was a writer, poet and statesman. He is considered one of the greatest figures in Western literature. His poem, “The Divine Comedy,” written in an Italian vernacular, is perhaps one of his most well-known works.
