United States Master Collection, Scott 1287, Prominent Americans series, Pres. John F. Kennedy (1965-78)

John F. Kennedy was one example of a president who had a disability. He suffered from Addision's Disease, which caused extreme back pain and other health problems from lack of adrenal hormones.

Essential Questions: What is a disability? How do stamps raise awareness? Who or what should be on stamps? How do stamps shape opinions? What is the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC)?

Topics Addressed: Disability awareness, historical figures with disabilities

Outcomes: Students will have a better understanding of others. Students will make new connections between stamps and people with disabilities. Students will create a stamp that promotes awareness of a specific person with a disability or a specific disability. Students will also learn how views on disabilities have evolved over time.
