Arago: Emma Batchelor

Up
Emma Batchelor

Emma Batchelor (1880-1960), daughter of Thomas Edison’s mechanical associate Charles Batchelor, collected airmail stamps and covers of the world. She never married and, therefore, had the freedom, time, and financial resources to pursue her philatelic interests and worldwide travels. Her vast collections also included cinderellas and charity seals for many topics, including Christmas to Red Cross. A philanthropist, she generously supported the hobby and her collections are now part of the Smithsonian Institution collection.
