Arago: Disney Characters Issue

Disney Characters Issue

The37-cent The Art of Disney: Friendship commemorative stamps were issued in four designs on June 23, 2004, in Anaheim, California. Peter Emmerich, of New York, New York, illustrated the stamps.

With the issuance of these stamps, the Postal Service honored the "art" of friendship as portrayed by Walt Disney and his studio animators. Postal Service art director Terrence McCaffrey joined with a Disney team to represent on the stamps four distinct types of friendship: Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck are the perfect fun-loving group; Bambi and Thumper represent childhood best friends; Mufasa and Simba show the powerful bond between parent and child; Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket exemplify a mentoring relationship.

The Banknote Corporation of America, Inc. and Sennett Security Products printed 284 million stamps in the offset process.
