Arago: 1970-1979 Definitives

1970-1979 Definitives

The 1970s began with a major reorganization of the Post Office Department. The reorganization culminated in what is now the United States Postal Service. Appropriately, the first regular definitive issue released during the period 1970-1979 featured the new United States Postal Service emblem. This 8-cent stamp was also the first definitive postage stamp printed using the photogravure process.

The period's other regular definitive issues featured an array of other images, including the Jefferson Memorial, the Indian Head penny, and the Zip Code issue.
