The Postal Service honored football coach George Halas with the issuance of a 32-cent commemorative stamp, on August 16, 1997, in Chicago, Illinois.
The stamp features a portrait of George Stanley Halas in a familiar scene associated with his career as a professional football coach. Halas coached the Chicago Bears in the National Football League for approximately forty years and led them to seven league championships.
The Halas stamp has the same design as the one featured on the sheet of four Legendary Football Coaches stamps issued on July 25, 1997. However, the stamp on the individual sheet bears a red bar over the name that appears at the top of the stamp.
Designed by Carl Herrman of Laguna Niguel, California, and illustrated by Daniel Moore of Birmingham, Alabama, the stamp was issued in a pane of twenty and printed by Ashton-Potter (USA), Ltd., in the offset.
