The Postal Service commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations with the issuance of a 32-cent stamp on June 26, 1995 in San Francisco, California. The stamp went on sale nationwide on June 27. Designed by Howard Paine of Delaplane, Virginia, the stamp features the insignia of the United Nations and the years 1945—1995, denoting the 50-year anniversary. The stamp was engraved through the intaglio process by the Banknote Corporation of America, Inc.
