Historic Preservation Issue

The 8-cent Historic Preservation Series stamps were first placed on sale at San Diego, California, on October 29, 1971. Featured in the series is the Decatur House in Washington, DC, the whaling ship 'Charles W. Morgan' in Mystic, Connecticut, the San Francisco Cable Cars, and San Xavier del Bac Mission in Tuscon, Arizona.

The stamps were designed by Melbourne Brindle and issued in sheets of thirty-two, with an initial printing of 150 million.
