The 8-cent American Revolution Bicentennial commemorative stamp was placed on sale at Washington, DC, on July 4, 1971. This stamp marked the first in a series planned for issuance through 1976.
Designed by Chermayeff and Geismar, the stamp features the Bicentennial Commission emblem. 130 million stamps were initially manufactured in sheets of fifty.
