The Department issued the 4-cent Kansas Statehood Centennial commemorative stamp on May 10, 1961, through the Council Grove, Kansas, post office. The design of the stamp features a sunflower, a pioneer couple, and a stockade.
The stamp was printed by the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 100 million stamps was authorized.
