These 6-cent Disabled American Veterans and American Prisoners of War commemorative postage stamps were first placed on sale at Montgomery, Alabama, and Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 24, 1970.

The first stamp in this two-stamp series recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Disabled Veterans of America Organization, and the second honors prisoners of war, missing or killed in action.

The stamps were designed by Stevan Dohanos and were issued in panes of fifty, with an initial printing of 135 million.
