The 6-cent Law and Order commemorative postage stamp was issued May 17, 1968, during Police Week, with First Day of Issue ceremonies in Washington, DC.
The stamp's purpose was to reaffirm the traditional role of the law enforcement officer as a protector and friend of the citizens he serves. The stamp was intended to encourage upgrading the quality and training of law enforcements officers at the local level.
The stamp was designed by Edward Vebell, and was issued in panes of fifty, with an initial printing of 120 million.
