This 5-cent stamp commemorating 100 years of service by the Salvation Army was first placed on sale through the New York, New York, post office on July 2, 1965. Founded by William Booth, the Salvation Army began in London in 1865.
Designed by Sam Marsh, this stamp was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty. An initial printing of 114 million stamps was authorized.
