This 5-cent Register-Vote commemorative postage stamp was first placed on sale through the Washington, DC, post office on August 1, 1964. It was released to remind all Americans that voting is both a privilege and a responsibility.

Designed by Victor S. McCloskey, Jr., this stamp was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 120 million stamps was authorized.
