Arago: 150th Anniversary Louisiana Statehood

150th Anniversary Louisiana Statehood

The 4-cent Louisiana Statehood commemorative stamp was issued at New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 30, 1962. The stamp commemorated the 150th anniversary of Louisiana statehood, which dates to April 30, 1912.

The central subject of the stamp is an old riverboat belching fire and smoke, churning up the Mississippi River, seen at dusk through riverbank trees which drip Spanish moss. Norman Todhunter designed the stamp.

The stamp is 0.84 by 1.44 inches in dimension, arranged horizontally, and issued in panes of fifty. The color of the stamp is cobalt blue, vermillion red, and deep moss green. The initial printing order of 120 million stamps was authorized. It was printed in a pane of fifty on the Giori press.
