This 4-cent stamp was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of New Mexico statehood on January 6, 1962, through the Santa Fe, New Mexico, post office.
Designed by Robert J. Jones, featured on the stamp is "Shiprock," a mesa located in northwestern New Mexico.
The stamp was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 100 million stamps was authorized.
