National Recovery Act Issue

The centerpiece of the 'New Deal' promised by newly-elected President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the National Industrial Recovery Act promoted economic security, increased employment and wages, and improved living and working conditions for Americans. As part of a campaign to arouse support for the program, a violet 3-cent stamp picturing a group of workers was issued on August 15, 1933. The workers shown are a farmer, a businessman, a laborer, and a female worker. The stamp bears the initials NRA, the acronym for 'National Recovery Act'.
