150th Anniversary of Mexican Independence

The Department issued this 4-cent stamp on September 16, 1960, through the Los Angeles, California, post office to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Mexican Independence. A stamp of identical design with the exception of changes in script and denomination was released in Mexico.

Designed by Leon Helguera and Charles R. Chickering, the stamp was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 120 million stamps was authorized.
