The Department issued this 3-cent stamp to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Trucking Industry through the Los Angeles, California, post office on October 27, 1953. Appearing predominately in the lower right corner of the stamp's design is a 1950s-era truck. To the left of the truck, in the foreground, is shown a farm scene, and in the upper right corner is a scene of a distant city, with a connecting highway. In the upper left corner appears the wording "3c US Postage" in dark, modified Gothic. Across the bottom of the stamp in a dark panel is the wording "50th Anniversary of the Trucking Industry," in whiteface Gothic.
The stamp was printed by the rotary process, electric-eye perforated, and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 110 million stamps was authorized.
