75th Anniversary of American Bar Association Issue

The Department issued this 3-cent stamp commemorating the 75th anniversary of the American Bar Association, at the Boston, Massachusetts, post office on August 24, 1953.

The stamp's central design is part of a frieze as it appears on the wall of the Supreme Court chambers, which depicts four figures representing "Wisdom," "Justice and Dive Inspiration," and "Truth." Across the bottom appears "1878 Liberty Under Law 1953." Arranged in two lines in the upper left corner is "US Postage." In both lower corners appears the denomination "3c." All the lettering is styled in dark, architectural Roman on a shaded background.

The stamp was produced by the rotary process, electric-eye perforated, and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 105 million stamps was authorized.
