Button with Post Office Department seal
Adapted from the Post Office Department’s seal, the metal button features a post rider on a galloping horse with “U.S.A.” imprinted along the top and “P.O.D.” (Post Office Department) along the bottom. The Waterbury Button Company of Waterbury, Connecticut, manufactured this button, which met the regulations for postal jackets created between 1868 and 1873.
