Clock from the Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, post office
This clock is from the post office in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, which was in operation from 1913 to 1971. The modular post office was ordered in pieces from the Federal Equipment Company of New York, New York, and Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and assembled onsite in Dillsburg. The clock, manufactured by the Cincinnati Time Recorder Company, is made from oak, the same material as the rest of the modular post office. It is unknown whether the clock was ordered at the same time as the rest of the post office, but the similar wood and stain suggests an effort at coordination. Accurate timekeeping was and continues to be extremely important to the postal service, as customers depend on timely delivery of the mails.
