"That Government Of The People, By The People, For The People Shall Not Perish
Sun Yat Sen ... China Resists Aggression Five Years"
Sun Yat-sen, physician and leader of the Chinese Nationalist Party (The Kuomintang) and a shadowy Abraham Lincoln are flanked by Chinese flags and backed by a map of China. Recognized by the Chinese as their country's modern founder and the Father of the Chinese Revolution, his inspiration and political guidance transcended political parties. With his new political ideology — the Three Principles of the People — which combined the fundamental aspects of nationalism, democracy and socialism — he hoped to restore the economic and moral strength of his country, first by expelling the Manchus and then by curbing the foreign powers.
A five-cent United States Scott 928 is canceled with the postmark Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 13, 1945. A letter (2002.2035.404.2) is associated with this cover.
