A U.S. soldier advances through Sicily and Italy toward a frightened Hitler hiding behind the Alps. The United States and Britain had already invaded Sicily on July 9, 1943, and the Italian mainland on September 3 in their push towards Germany when this cover was postmarked on October 6, 1943, from Buffalo, New York.

United States two-cent Scott 907 is canceled by the familiar boxed slogan Buy War Savings Bonds and Stamps. Walter Poppenger published this cachet.
