This pictorial cancellation was used at a special postal station on the site of the New Haven, Connecticut, Safety Fair. It has slots for month, date, and year type, which allowed for changing the date on each day of the event.
Program organizers can apply for a special postmark at least ninety days prior to their events. The postmark and pictorial cancel are required to have the date, city, state, ZIP Code, and the name of the occasion, followed by the word "station." The pictorial cancel must be original artwork that is legible when reduced to approximately 1 x 2-1/2 inches and does not promote a commercial product or service. They are most often used to commemorate an event of local significance that would not warrant a postage stamp issue.
