Owney received this token while visiting the town of Mitchell, South Dakota. As the tag notes, in 1889, Mitchell was still part of the Dakota Territory (the territory became North and South Dakota late in the year, on November 2, 1889). The Maltese-Cross-shaped tag includes the number 228. There is no additional information to indicate the purpose of the token.
