Description:

Airmail pilot Eddie Gardner posing with a JH-4H “Jenny” Post Office Department mail airplane. Gardner is wearing leather leggings and a leather helmet that are now in the collections of the National Postal Museum. Gardner worked as an airmail pilot for the Department from August 1918 to April 1919. Six Curtiss JN-4H airplanes were provided by the Army to the Department for use on the first regularly scheduled airmail flights in the United States.
