Flying Exhibition post card
Paul Peck flew mail each of the three days from Cincinnati's Coney Island Flying Exhibition to California, Ohio. The exhibition took place July 19-21, 1912. He flew a Columbia biplane, and the Post Office Department designated the route as No. 631,003. A three-line cachet, the same as used on #31, was applied in red to the mail.
The Coney Island flights were made at about 6 p.m. each day. As the post office in California was closed by the time the mail arrived, it was postmarked at 8 a.m. the next morning. Mail from Friday, July 19, was postmarked at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 20. Mail flown on Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, was postmarked at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 22, because the post office was closed on Sunday.
Peck carried this post card on either July 20 or 21, and it was postmarked at 8 a.m. on July 22 at California, Ohio. The bold, red cachet appears in the upper left corner - "US OFFICIAL / AERIAL/ MAIL STAMP."
