Aviation Meet postal card
The Galveston Chamber of Commerce sponsored the National School of Aviation Meet in Galveston, Texas, on March 17, 1912. Galveston Postmaster H. A. Griffin authorized aviator Paul Studensky (1888-1961) to fly mail from Galveston to La Marque, about fifteen miles away, where Studensky delivered the mail pouch to the La Marque's postmaster. Studensky flew a Curtiss-type biplane built by Lestor V. Bratton, and he carried about 1,200 pieces of mail.
This postal card is apparently showing a proof strike of the rubber stamp cachet that was also used as the official postmark. It is impossible to tell whether this card was flown.
