Description:

used; position 80L. The stamp prepaid a single rate for a cover that traveled more than 300 miles, from New York City to Queenston, U.C., a Canadian exchange office on the Canadian-U.S. border. It entered the mails at New York City on June 4, 1848.

The stamp exhibits a large sheet margin at right. The sender wrote the ms "paid to the Lines".

At Queenston, the ms "4 ½" was applied to indicate a collect charge to the addressee for the Canadian postage from the border to St. Catherines.
