Tobias & Company of New York to Arendal, Norway, paid 4-cent per ounce book packet rate, which included printed circulars, under United States-Sweden/Norway Convention effective July 1, 1873. Payment made with a horizontal pair of 2-cent red brown 1870 National Bank Note Company adhesives without grills. New York exchange office clerk applied red orange PAID ALL handstamp. Circular probably carried in closed mailbag on North German Lloyd steamship “Main” from New York (June 19) to Southampton (June 29) and then either directly to Christiana or in closed mail via Germany and Denmark. There is no arrival datestamp or other information to determine the routing.
