Richard Bates

Dr. Richard Bates specializes in the philatelic and postal history in the United States controlled Canal Zone. Dr. Bates served on the Board of Directors of ‘The Canal Zone Study Group’ and currently serves as the editor of ‘The Canal Zone Philatelist’ publication.

Dr. Bates graduated Cum Laude from Cornell University and went on to receive his M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. He currently is the Chairman of and a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Georgetown University.
