The American flag waving proudly above Mt. Rushmore is featured on a 29-cent coil stamp issued on March 29, 1991, in Mt. Rushmore (Keystone), South Dakota. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial celebrated its fiftieth anniversary that year on July 4, 1991.
Designed by Clarence Holbert, the stamps were engraved through the intaglio process by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Stamps per coil were 100, 500, and 3,000.
On July 4, 1991, the Postal Service also issued a new gravure, 10,000 coil version of the 29-cent Flag Over Mt. Rushmore stamp, in Mt. Rushmore, in honor of the golden anniversary of the national memorial. The American Bank Note Company printed the later issue gravure stamps.
