Up
150th Anniversary Mississippi Statehood

The 5-cent stamp marking the 150th anniversary of Mississippi statehood was first placed on sale on December 11, 1967, at Natchez, Mississippi, the first territorial capital.

Andrew Bucci, a native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, designed the stamp, which featured an image of Mississippi's state flower. The brownish magnolia is shown against a light blue-green background.

The stamp was printed on the Giori press, green-blue being applied in the first pass; brown of the flower and green of the leaves, in the second.

The stamp was issued in panes of 100, with an initial printing of 120 million.
