On June 27, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service issued the Hearts special stamps. The stamps were designed by Carl T. Herrman of Carlsbad, California. Nancy Stahl of New York, New York, created the artwork on the stamps based on memories of intertwined objects, including silver charms and old-fashioned garden gates.
The stamps were available in the following two formats: a 58-cent pane of twenty pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) stamps that paid the 2-ounce postage rate and a 41-cent convertible booklet of twenty PSA stamps that paid the 1-ounce postage rate. Avery Dennison produced 200 million stamps.
