The 4-cent fifty-star American Flag commemorative stamp was issued through the Honolulu, Hawaii, post office on July 4, 1960. The change in flag design and subsequent issue of this stamp was due to the accession of Hawaii into statehood on August 21, 1959.
Designed by Stevan Dohanos, the stamp was printed on the Giori press and issued in panes of fifty stamps each. An initial printing of 120 million stamps was authorized.
