The Postal Service issued its 29-cent Desert Shield/Desert Strom commemorative stamp July 2, 1991, in Washington, DC, honoring the members of the Armed Forces who served in the Persian Gulf, in Operations Desert Shield, and Desert Storm. Designed by Jack Williams, the stamp depicts the Southwest Asia Service Medal, established by Presidential Executive Order in March 1991.
The stamp was issued in a pane of fifty and a booklet of twenty. Stamp Venturers, Inc., manufactured stamp sheets in the gravure process, and the American Bank Note Company produced stamp booklets also in the gravure process.
