On May 1, 2009, in Washington, DC, the US Postal Service issued two Weddings stamps in pressure-sensitive adhesive panes of twenty. Both stamps were designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, and feature photographs taken by Renee Comet of Washington, DC.
The 44-cent one-ounce Wedding Rings stamp features a photograph of two gold wedding rings resting on a small white pillow. The 61-cent two-ounce Wedding Cake stamp features a photograph of a wedding cake. The photograph depicts a three-tier cake topped with white flowers, their stems and leaves a delightful contrast to the cake's creamy white frosting.
Banknote Corporation of America/SSP, Browns Summit, North Carolina, printed 300 million Wedding Rings stamps using the offset process with microprint "USPS." A total of 100 million Wedding Cake stamps were printed in the gravure process by Avery Dennison (AVR), Clinton, South Carolina.
